Who we are
The Gause Cemetery was founded circa 1874 when the town of Gause was platted. The first known burial was in 1879. The burials were of mixed races until 1902 when the Gause White Cemetery Association was formed. In 1983 the Gause Cemetery Association was reformed and opened for all community members. There were no formal records kept of burials up until that time.
The cemetery is maintained solely by private donations. We receive no assistance from county or government funds. Your generous contributions are gratefully accepted.
The Gause Cemetery Association hosts the annual Mother’s Day Homecoming every year which started in 1920 to help generate the monies needed to support the cemetery. This includes a program with singing, pot luck meal at noon and honoring the oldest mother. We alternate between the host churches of the Gause Methodist (odd years) and Gause Baptist Church (even years) each year. Hope to see you there!
